United Security Life and Health Life Insurance Offers Tips to Prevent Unhealthy Weight Gain During the Holiday Season

United Security Life and Health Life Insurance Offers Tips to Prevent Unhealthy Weight Gain During the Holiday Season

Bedford Park, IL (PRWEB) October 31, 2011

Statistics show that the average American gains one to two pounds between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. And although that does not seem like a lot, statistics also show that most Americans do not lose that weight. (http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/holiday-foods-diet) Year after year, those extra pounds can add up and contribute to being overweight or obesity later in life. United Security Life and Health Insurance Company offer an easy to follow guide to help avoid holiday weight gain this year.

“With the already hectic schedules most Americans have, and then adding-in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, along with festive parties, healthy eating and exercise are usually the first things to go. The result unfortunately is unwanted and unhealthy extra pounds by the start of the New Year,” explained Leonard Hertko, M.D., Medical Advisor, United Security Life and Health. “No one wants to be on a strict diet over the holidays. We all want to enjoy the abundance of traditional favorite foods. This can be achieved with a little planning and keeping-in-mind a few healthy tips.”

Dr. Hertko offers the following tips this holiday season:

1. Never go to a party hungry. It is important not to skip meals or go to a festive function on an empty stomach. If you do, you are more likely to overeat and consume extra calories.

2. Watch your alcohol consumption. In addition to the dangers of consuming too much alcohol, drinks are loaded with empty calories that can add-up fast. Alcohol can expand your appetite since it causes an increase in the acid level in your stomach, which in turn makes you feel hungrier.

3. Stay active. People who are more active during the holidays do not gain weight. It is important to squeeze at least 15 extra minutes of exercise into your day. This can easily be achieved by taking the stairs at work instead of the elevator, taking the dog for a walk, or doing something active with your children. The point is, you want to balance your exercise level with your calorie consumption. By doing this, you will not gain that extra holiday weight.

4. Keep your portions small. When going through the buffet line, do not load-up your plate with giant size portions. Smaller sized samples of your favorite foods will keep you satisfied and will help avoid that overstuffed, uncomfortable feeling.

5. Make smart choices. To shave calories, go easy on the nuts, cheeses, cream sauces, gravy, butter, and whipped cream. All of these foods are high in fat and will quickly increase your calorie intake. Add more fruits and vegetables to your diet, both offer less calories and are healthier for you. Enjoy just one of your favorite desserts, and stay away from eating handfuls of cookies and other small desserts which you are more likely to over eat on.

Dr. Hertko concluded, “If you keep these helpful tips in mind, when you attend your next holiday gathering you will be armed with the tools needed to manage your calorie intake and avoid those extra holiday pounds. Obesity can lead to potentially serious health problems including heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. In addition, being obese can affect a person’s overall quality of life which can lead to depression.”

What God Says About Dieting – A Biblical Guide to Losing Weight

Have you ever wondered what God says about dieting? For most of our lives, we are always looking for ways on how to slim down and be healthy, but have you really thought about a biblical guide to losing weight? Most probably, you have not heard about this but it is nice to know this interesting thing because most of what we know is from a medical point of view. Read on this article and discover how this can help you physically and spiritually.

We are talking about the Daniel Diet. This clearly demonstrates what God says about dieting and this is not another form of fraudulent attempt to sell a product. It differs from the rest of the articles you can read on the Internet or from your local health store because it gives you a different perspective in looking at your health dilemma.

]]>

This is a holy and devout commitment that a person makes with God to help him reduce weight. Remember, the primary purpose of this is not to shed those pounds but to develop our relationship with the Supreme Being. Here are some of the fundamental concepts on what God says about dieting or Daniel Diet:

1. This has its roots from the Bible verse Daniel 1:18, which says, “Daniel proposed in his heart that he would not defile himself.” This is just explaining to us that during that time, Daniel served as a guide or consultant to the Babylonian King, advising the king to eat all types of food that Jews could not eat. These include wine, non-kosher foods, and drinks offered to idols.

2. Reverend Elmer Townes was the one who made this popular today, but he is not expecting us to emulate this exactly the same way during Biblical times.

3. During fasting, a person cannot eat fruits, vegetables, whole grains, water, juices, meat, caffeine, alcohol, sugar, dairy products, and animal products.

Now you want to have more energy, be Healthier, look Younger, lose weight, and cleanse your body, right?

Guide to Losing Weight

With so many guides to losing weight on the web, it’s difficult to find “The” guide to losing weight that’s right for you. Several new diets seem to pop out every month, but the truth is, most of these guides to losing weight are severely flawed. Here, I’ll discuss a few tried and true methods to shedding the extra pounds effectively.

•Make small changes in your diet
This is quite simple and easy to implement. To give you an example, if you drink a can of coke every day, substitute coke with water. That small compromise would deduct 100 calories off your daily intake. Here’s another example, if you have at least one meal a day at a fast food chain, try skipping couple of visits a week. If the location of your job and the time you have lunch leaves you no choice but to have lunch at a fast food chain. Pack something healthy for lunch for couple of days a week and have them at a nearby park. Depending on what you regularly order and the amount you consume normally, you may deduct up to 1500 calories off your weekly intake.

•Walk
Set aside 30minutes everyday for walking or if you don’t wish to do that, you can walk to your destinations instead of driving or using mass transportation. If you are up to it though, power walks can be just as effective as jogging without all the strain put on your knee joints.

•Ingest fiber
Your digestive system work more efficiently when you ingest fiber due to the fiber’s characteristic to regulate adequate water level in your intestines. Some studies also have reported fiber directly helping in weight loss.

•Weight Training
Weight Training, Pumping Iron, Resistance Training, there are many names for this activity. Weight training is not a must, but it will seriously boost your weight losing capacity. By adding lean muscles to your body, you can increase your metabolism significantly. Not only will you burn calories more efficiently while exercising, but you will burn more calories even when you are resting. It’s a simple logic really, muscle require a lot more calories to maintain than fat.

•Rest well
Quite simply, if you deprive yourself of sleep, you will impair your ability to burn fat. You may want to wake up early to take morning jogs or walks, just don’t forget to compensate the earlier wake-up routine by going to bed that much earlier. Also, if you weight train, be sure to rest trained muscles for at least 24hours. In the mean time, you can develop other untrained muscles or do aerobic exercises.

Losing weight need not be torturous and in fact, it’s only effective when it can be implemented with small compromises. One needs to choose a guide to losing weight that fits his or her lifestyle, thereby making continuous weight loss and sustainable ideal weight, practicable.

7:30am Breakfast: (193 calories)
2 boiled egg whites
1/2 a banana
1 slice of wholemeal bread
1 cup of green tea

10:30 Snack: (144 calories)
10 Almonds
1 Apple

12:40 Lunch: (200 calories)
Wholemeal sandwich with turkey, lettuce, tomato, cheese.
Celery (sometimes)

4:15 Snack: (57 calories)

Tuna in brine, or grilled chicken with vegies, or soup with vegies, or fish with vegies.. those kind of things..

Is there anything I should change? Are the calories to low? You can make adjustments to it if you want because im not 100% on everything. Some mornings I might also have scrambled eggs instead of boiled. So is it a good plan for losing weight?

Also usually at about 8pm I go to the gym for about 40mins on the elliptical burning 500-600 calories and some strength training.

Looks good to me. Remember, you should not consume more calories than you burn, and you seem to burn a lot. I think you’ll be fine.

But eating the same meal plan every day could get boring.

Other than that, you should be fine

Good luck

Could someone give me a quick and easy running guide to lose weight?

Question by Chris P: Could someone give me a quick and easy running guide to lose weight?
and by that i mean can someone make me a quick and easy running guide to follow over the course of 3 months. now ull probably need to know weight, height, etc..so im 190 pounds i wanna TRY and lose 20-30 pounds this summer just bc. im about 6’2 i have about 14 body fat percent. How much should i run? When should i run to lose weight?

Best answer:

Answer by ><
run 5 days a week
and you should try running first to see how long u can run until you get tired.
and by tired i don’t mean you’re breathing a little faster and your legs are tired. some people stop because they think they are tired, but the truth is its just their mind telling them that they are tired so they stop when they can still run a couple more laps.
try to go until you really can’t stand it anymore. and try to run that distance a couple of times until you feel like you can increase the distance. and don’t increase it by too much… a little at a time. and remember to stretch after each run. and before if u want to.

What do you think? Answer below!
